Pioneer River
Just minutes from Dunes Harbour Beach, the Pioneer River offers excellent fishing opportunities for both locals and visitors. One of Queensland’s few “blue water” rivers, it flows from the Clarke Connors Ranges through the Pioneer Valley before reaching the Pacific Ocean at Mackay.

Fishing can be enjoyed from a boat, a bridge, or one of the land-based fishing platforms in Mackay City. Popular catches include barra, sooty grunter and a variety of estuary species.
