Summer is well and truly in full swing which means there’s no better time to make the most of the sunny weather. And, beachside living at Dunes Harbour Beach means endless days by the water for the whole family, with plenty centred around the Mackay Surf Lifesaving Club. The local club is a pinnacle of our community with lots of activity happening all year round.
Local Nippers program
For little ones in your life, starting early is one of the best ways to be beach safe and a great way to get more comfortable with the ocean. The Mackay Surf Life Saving Club offers their own Nippers Program on weekends. It’s a great option for local kids from ages 5 to 13 years old to learn water skills, surf swimming, safety and general beach activities. There will still be sessions left in the season come 2025, every Sunday at 8:45am from mid January (12th) through to March.
Enjoy a swim at the beach
If you’re just looking to take a dip to cool off, then just knowing you’re in safe hands with the patrol at Harbour Beach is peace of mind for the whole family. Whilst there, be sure to swim between the flags with patrolling lifeguards on the look-out. This season’s patrolling is currently running until 3rd May 2025. During your beach swim, be sure to keep extra safe with some extra shelter, like an umbrella or cabana, slip, slop, slap to stay protected from the rays.
Grab a bite to eat after the swim
After a dip, the Surf Lifesaving Club is also a great spot for a bite with family and friends. Overlooking the waves, there’s plenty of seating both indoor and outdoor, or larger spaces for functions and special occasions. The club is open 7 days a week so perfect for any day.
Get involved in the carnivals
Get connected with the wider Surf Lifesaving community by participating in the various carnivals across the area. Nippers carnivals are a great way for your child to put their water safety skills to the test all whilst having fun in a supportive and safe environment. Events in the Surf Life saving world include the SSCB Youth Championships which will take place in Mooloolaba on the 7th and 8th of February 2025, followed by the Agnes Waters carnival on 8th and 9th of February. Plus participants have the opportunity to really level up their skills and learn from others at the Junior and Senior State Titles on the 13-16th and 7-9th of March respectively.
